I've put this together quickly. There's so many people to be helped and so many organization and people willing to provide assistance. I'm using this space on my website to compile a listing of those organizations where people may make donations in one way or another to assist. Please keep them in mind--$5, $10, or more, a little from each will combine to help. Because I am a romance author, many of these listings do come from the supportive romance community in particular. This listing does not encompass all, but it will provide at least a start...

Adopt-a-Chapter - RWA Chapter Help for Louisiana
From J.C. Wilder -- "I am a member of SOLA, the Southern Louisiana RWA Chapter. Many of the members of this group have lost their homes and everything they own in the wake of Katrina. I'm taking up a collection for the SOLA chapter members to help them out with immediate expenses such as food, water and lodging. You can make a contribution via PayPal to: Wilderwriter2005 @ cs . com (no spaces)"
An update from Kathryn Falk's SOS Hurricane Update regarding J.C.'s efforts in Louisiana:
HELP NEEDED IN LOUISIANA
Lisa Hamilton (known to you as author JC Wilder/Dominique Adair) went to Louisiana to help at the shelters as soon as Katrina hit. I hope everyone can pitch in and help.
The Red Cross is NOT there, FEMA is NOT there.
Lisa said that they are desperately in need of LARGE men's and women's clothes, the bigger the better. (3-5X) She said that many of the women are getting on the buses to the shelters naked, only a sheet wrapped around them, because they have NOTHING to wear.
She also needs duffel bags to put the clothes in and children's toys...anything to distract the children from their harsh reality. Because the predominant number of children are African-American, if you choose to send Barbies, dolls, or anything of that nature, please give them a toy to snuggle with that they can relate to. Send all items to:
Bent Pages Bookstore JC Wilder/Lisa Hamilton 1422 Barrow St. Houma, LA 70360Please do not mark the outside of the packages as anything noteworthy. Lisa said she will try to blog about what's going on as time, energy, and electricity allows. Her blog is at http://jcwilder.blogspot.com

Many of the same supplies we needed for the soldiers are needed in Texas. The women don't have cosmetics, shampoo/conditioners, towels, sheets. The men need razers, hygiene products. The children need toys, aspirins, over the counter medications, powder for the water (lemonade, crystal lite), toys, stuffed animals.

Ways you can help:
Make a hurricane box
What is this you ask?
Get any shoe box and fill it with little things for example:
toy cars for kids, barbie dolls, traveling sewing box, jacks, coloring books, small books, dental floss, granola bars, marbles anything for children that they can play with. Anything small that you can pack. If you would like to donate underwears, boys or girls, they need that too wrap it around tightly like a ball. In just one shoe box you can pack it with about 10 items. Once you done wrap it with any brown wrapping paper and tape it good then send it to your local Salvation Army. They are accepting items to take to the victims in that area.
Wheelchairs
Yes people especially the elderly need wheel chairs. So many are unable to walk or have no legs you can donate a wheel chair or contribute financially for a wheel chair.
Visit Joni and Friends
It's only $150 for one wheel chair but that one wheel chair can help a person move unlike someone who has none
