"You've got to get out of there,
Maxie. It's against the law, you know. I don't want to have to arrest you."
"Would you, Seth? Arrest me?"
She opened her eyes wide, all innocence. "I've never been to
jail." She held her arms out in front of her, offering herself
to him. "I think it would be okay if you arrested me though.
Want to handcuff me? I've never been handcuffed either." There
was an imp in that lopsided, sensual grin she gave him. What in hell
was she up to?
The idea of handcuffing her brought
other visions to his mind. And it wasn't going to be for a trip to
jail. The longer he stood here, the worse it was getting.
"Are you drunk, Maxie? How much
have you had to drink tonight?"
"Well, let's see." She seemed
to pause to consider. Lifting her gaze to the sky, she tapped that
cute little chin of hers with her index finger. He rolled his own
eyes heavenward as there went that little sexy pink tongue of hers
again as she seemed to seriously contemplate on how to answer his
question. "I did drink practically a gallon of strawberry
lemonade." She looked at him with a wide smile. "Maybe that
was it. All those lemons and strawberries, maybe I'm punch drunk.
Would that be right?"
Then she made a moue with her lips, and
damn, but weren't they just asking to be kissed. He'd fought so long
against wanting her; this wasn't fair.
He also knew she wasn't going to come
out of the damn water on her own. With a heavy sigh, he sat down on
the flat edge of the fountain ledge and took off his socks and
sneakers. No point in ruining a pair of perfectly good Nikes. He set
them down on the sidewalk, then turned and stepped up onto the flat
ridge of the fountain, feeling the smooth, cool marble beneath his feet.
He looked across at her. Would she stay
put until he got to her? Or would she decide it was game time and try
for a game of come-and-get-me-if-you-can? There was a certain
challenge in her eyes as she stared back at him, one perfect golden
eyebrow slightly arched.
"All right, Maxie," he warned,
"I'm coming to get you. Are you sure you want it this way?"
He waited for her to answer him.
"Think you're man enough to take
me, Officer? It might not be so easy you know." She flagrantly
stood there, hands on her rounded hips, legs splayed, head tilted at
a slight angle, actually baiting him.

has written a hot little tale. Considering the length the characters
are well developed and the storyline is interesting. The characters
