Excerpt from No Choice: "...Ginnie turned over and opened her eyes. Thinking about Mason and Derek, knowing they were just down the hall in their own rooms, made it hard to sleep, and being in a strange room didnt help. It was pitch black, but after finally drifting into an uneasy sleep, shed been awakened by some sort of odd sound, other than the air switching on and off. It sounded almost like a groan. The shorts and T-shirt theyd found for her to wear were old cast-offs of Masons from way back in high school with the school mascot emblazoned across them. They were too large for her, but they were workable in a pinch. Theyd really had to dig for something usable. The spare room she slept in was definitely that, filled with cardboard boxes of odds and ends and a sofa couch that pulled out into a bed. She was so tired it hadnt really mattered to her. If only shed been able to sleep without being visited by her hot, unconsummated dreams of her two former lovers. But for some reason right now she was wide awake. There was that sound again. She threw back the covers and slid out of bed. Was someone hurt? Opening her door, she stepped out into the hall. She looked toward the living room, but then heard the sound again, but it was coming from the other direction. She turned in that direction and began to make her way down the hallway. She had gone on to bed before Derek and Mason, so wasnt sure who slept in which room. There were several doors, all of them closed, except for one that was only partially opened. That was where the sound came from. She tiptoed down the hallway toward the door, knowing she probably shouldnt be doing this, but shed always been the inquisitive type and couldnt let well enough alone when something, in her opinion, required investigation. She hadnt scouted around earlier while Derek and Mason were downstairs looking at her car, because her mind had been on other things, and frankly, shed been exhausted. With fingers pressed lightly against the door, she pushed. It was dark in the room, but the moonlight made the room seem brighter. Peering around, she saw exactly where the groans were coming from. And it wasnt because someone was hurt.
